YAYASAN KONSERVASI EKOSISTEM ALAM NUSANTARA (KIARA)

About Us

We are an Indonesian-led conservation organization founded in 2020 (Registration number AHU-0016632.AH.01.04) and based in Bogor, West Java. We work to protect the Javan gibbon, one of Indonesia’s endangered primates, through long-term field research, conservation education, and genuine community partnership in and around Gunung Halimun–Salak National Park. Our approach is locally rooted, science-based, and built on the belief that lasting conservation begins with the people who live closest to the forest.

Our Vision

A future where the Javan gibbon and its habitat are preserved alongside communities who take pride in protecting them.

Our Mission

Supporting the conservation of the Javan gibbon through:
  1. Science-based research, Long-term behavioral monitoring and ecological studies that generate credible data to guide conservation decisions and policy.
  2. Conservation education,  Building empathy and awareness in the next generation through programs for schoolchildren that weave local knowledge with science.
  3. Community engagement, placing local communities at the center of conservation, as monitors, stewards, and proud protectors of their own forests.

Our Core Values

These five values are not aspirations on a wall — they are the living principles that shape how KIARA makes decisions, builds relationships, and shows up in the field and in the community.

1. Active Communication: Every team member proactively shares information, speaks up, and stays open to different perspectives, without waiting to be asked.

2. Happiness: A thriving team creates real impact. Everyone at KIARA deserves to work in an environment that is joyful, authentic, and free to be themselves.

3. Credibility: Trust is built through honest, consistent knowledge. Every piece of work at KIARA is grounded in data, delivered with integrity, and fully accountable.

4. Commitment: Real change demands long-term dedication. Commitment means showing up not just when things are easy, but through uncertainty, limitation, and challenge.

5. Empathy: Meaningful conversation starts with listening. At KIARA, empathy means understanding perspectives and seeing people, like nature, as part of the solution.
