Integrating Human Dimensions into Conservation Practices for the Javan Gibbons and Beyond!

About Us

Yayasan Konservasi Ekosistem Alam Nusantara
(KIARA)

Yayasan Konservasi Ekosistem Alam Nusantara (KIARA) is a registered charitable organization in Indonesia (AHU – 0016632.AH.01.04). We are dedicated to safeguarding the Javan gibbon (Hylobates moloch), an endangered yet overlooked species found only in the remaining habitat of the island of Java.

Our vision is a future where Javan gibbons and their homes thrive alongside communities that take pride in protecting them. Through a collaborative approach, we can bridge scientific research with community-driven conservation efforts.

Our mission is to ensure the survival of the Javan gibbon by fostering a deep connection between people and nature. We achieve this through:

At KIARA, we believe the song of the Javan gibbon is more than a call echoing through Java’s forests; it’s a symbol of their existence and the need to protect them. By amplifying their voice through research, education, and community engagement, we ensure their song is not forgotten but celebrated as a vital part of Indonesia’s natural heritage. Together, we can keep their melodies alive, echoing through the generations as a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect them.
